ValladolidDispensas.com is a free, growing collection of indexes to FamilySearch microfilms from the records of the Sagrada Mitra de Valladolid — the old Catholic diocese known as the Antiguo Obispado de Michoacán. Its purpose is simple: to expose the extraordinary genealogical data buried in these microfilms, so that families whose roots lie in this old diocese can find them. ValladolidDispensas.com es una colección gratuita y en constante crecimiento de índices de microfilmes de FamilySearch tomados de los registros de la Sagrada Mitra de Valladolid —el antiguo obispado católico conocido como el Antiguo Obispado de Michoacán. Su propósito es sencillo: sacar a la luz los extraordinarios datos genealógicos contenidos en estos microfilmes, para que las familias con raíces en este antiguo obispado puedan encontrarlas.
What this diocese covered
The Antiguo Obispado de Michoacán stretched across what are today the Mexican states of Michoacán, Colima, San Luis Potosí, and Guanajuato, together with parts of Jalisco and Guerrero. If your ancestors came from a town anywhere in this region, there may be a record for them here.
Why these records matter
For many towns in the old diocese, these diocesan records preserve information that no longer survives in the local parish or civil registers — lost over the centuries to war, fire, flooding, vandalism, and simple accident. More often than you would expect, the microfilm indexed here is the only surviving trace of a family, a marriage, or a name. This blog exists to help people trace their roots through records they would struggle to find anywhere else.

The records span the 16th through the 19th centuries (siglos XVI–XIX) and cover a wide range of subjects, including:

How to use this blog
Every entry is indexed by the town named in the record and linked directly to its image on FamilySearch. The easiest place to start is the town index, which lists every town that appears across all indexed films, with a count of entries for each. Pick a town, and you'll see each of its records grouped by film and year.

El Antiguo Obispado de Michoacán se extendía por lo que hoy son los estados mexicanos de Michoacán, Colima, San Luis Potosí y Guanajuato, junto con partes de Jalisco y Guerrero. Si tus antepasados provienen de algún pueblo de esta región, es posible que aquí haya un registro de ellos.
Por qué importan estos registros
Para muchos pueblos del antiguo obispado, estos registros diocesanos conservan información que ya no sobrevive en los archivos parroquiales o civiles locales —perdidos con los siglos por guerras, incendios, inundaciones, vandalismo y simples accidentes. Con más frecuencia de la que uno imaginaría, el microfilme indexado aquí es el único rastro que queda de una familia, un matrimonio o un nombre. Este blog existe para ayudar a las personas a rastrear sus raíces a través de registros que difícilmente encontrarían en otro lugar.

El mejor punto de partida es el índice por pueblo, que lista todos los pueblos que aparecen en los microfilmes indexados, con el número de entradas de cada uno. Elige un pueblo y verás cada uno de sus registros agrupados por microfilme y año.
