Aguanuato —también Aguanato— es un pueblo del norte de Michoacán, en el municipio de Panindícuaro, cerca de Puruándiro y Angamacutiro. El nombre es purépecha. En los documentos de este acervo consta una petición de sus indios para ser feligreses del curato de Puruándiro en vez del de Tlazazalca, dato que sitúa al pueblo entre ambas jurisdicciones eclesiásticas.

En lo civil Aguanuato estuvo dentro de la provincia y luego intendencia de Valladolid. En lo eclesiástico perteneció al Obispado de Michoacán y sus dispensas matrimoniales y capellanías se tramitaron ante la Sagrada Mitra de Valladolid. No la tocó la división de 1863, que desprendió las parroquias del occidente para la Diócesis de Zamora: permaneció en Michoacán, hoy Arquidiócesis de Morelia, y allí continúan sus registros posteriores.

Aguanuato — also Aguanato — is a town of northern Michoacán, in the municipality of Panindícuaro, near Puruándiro and Angamacutiro. The name is Purépecha. In the documents of this collection there survives a petition by its Indians to be parishioners of the curacy of Puruándiro instead of that of Tlazazalca, a detail that places the town between those two church jurisdictions.

Civilly Aguanuato lay within the province and later intendancy of Valladolid. Ecclesiastically it belonged to the Obispado de Michoacán and its marriage dispensations and capellanías were filed with the Sagrada Mitra of Valladolid. It was not touched by the 1863 division that detached the western parishes for the Diocese of Zamora: it remained in Michoacán, today the Archdiocese of Morelia, and its later records continue there.
