Tlalchapa está en la Tierra Caliente del norte de Guerrero, en la cuenca del Balsas, hacia la raya de Michoacán y el Estado de México. El nombre es náhuatl y se ha leído como «juego de pelota sobre el agua». Dependió antiguamente de Cutzamala, y en lo civil de la alcaldía mayor de Tetela del Río, que en 1786 quedó en la intendencia de México.

En lo civil Tlalchapa fue de la intendencia de México, y hoy pertenece a Guerrero, estado creado en 1849. En lo eclesiástico, sin embargo, perteneció al Obispado de Michoacán, y sus dispensas matrimoniales y capellanías se tramitaron ante la Sagrada Mitra de Valladolid, por lo que figuran en los rollos que indexa esta página. La división de 1863 no alcanzó esta tierra caliente: Tlalchapa siguió en el arzobispado de Michoacán y sólo mucho después pasó a las diócesis de Guerrero.

Tlalchapa lies in the Tierra Caliente of northern Guerrero, in the Balsas basin, toward the Michoacán and State-of-México line. The name is Náhuatl and has been read as “ballgame upon the water.” It anciently depended on Cutzamala, and civilly on the alcaldía mayor of Tetela del Río, which in 1786 fell within the intendancy of México.

Civilly Tlalchapa belonged to the intendancy of México, and today lies in Guerrero, a state created in 1849. Ecclesiastically, however, it belonged to the Obispado de Michoacán, and its marriage dispensations and capellanías were filed with the Sagrada Mitra of Valladolid, which is why they appear in the films indexed on this page. The 1863 division did not reach this hot country: Tlalchapa stayed in the archdiocese of Michoacán and only much later passed to the dioceses of Guerrero.
